Bill Zinn, former CEO of Nebraska hospitals, dies at 83

Wilton "Bill" Zinn, former CEO of several Nebraska hospitals, died July 26 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

Mr. Zinn was 83.

After serving in the Korean War, Mr. Zinn worked for Omaha, Neb.-based Clarkson Hospital in 1958, where he eventually became CEO. He then spent 15 years as CEO of Omaha, Neb.-based Lutheran Medical Center. Although a merger in 1987 left him without a job, Mr. Zinn later took on the role of CEO of Lincoln (Neb.) Regional Center, where he served until his retirement in 1996.

In addition to his work in healthcare, Mr. Zinn frequently volunteered and later won a Jefferson Award, a national recognition of public service, for starting Experience Unlimited, a support group for unemployed professionals.

"His smiles never left, even when he had Alzheimer's," his wife Gloria Zinn told the Omaha World-Herald.
