7 latest hospital, health system layoffs

The following hospitals and health systems shared plans for or implemented layoffs within the past month. They are listed by the number of positions or employees affected.

1. Englewood, Colo.–based Catholic Health Initiatives, a national nonprofit health system, confirmed that it will cut 1,500 positions by the end of next month. The job cuts, which represent 1.7 percent of CHI's workforce, are partly attributable to less utilization of services.

2. Plans are in place for Aramark to lay off 100 employees who work at Saint Louis University Hospital.

3. Eighty-two food service workers will no longer have their jobs at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass., as of Jan. 26.

4. Sixty-nine employees of Marion (Ind.) General Hospital will be laid off early next year.

5. Holland (Mich.) Hospital laid off 30 employees as a result of decreasing inpatient visits.

6. Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C. announced it eliminated 22 positions and cut hours for 160 of its employees.

7. Owatonna (Minn.) Hospital trimmed its workforce in a business move that affected 20 employees and led to three or four employees losing their jobs.
