A vast majority of Americans want Medicaid to continue largely as it is today, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll.
The survey, released Friday, was conducted Feb. 13-19 with a sample of 1,160 adults.
Here are three survey findings.
1. Sixty percent of respondents do not support current Republican proposals for turning control of Medicaid over to the states or changing the federal funding method, the poll found.
2. Kaiser Family Foundation said nearly two-thirds of respondents prefer the current Medicaid program to a "block grant" that offers states more flexibility but would limit Medicaid's currently unlimited budget. Two-thirds of respondents also said they prefer the current program to a "per capita cap," which would also limit spending to states but would allow federal funding to rise with enrollment increases."
3. Eighty-four percent of respondents said letting states that expanded Medicaid under the ACA continue to receive federal funding was very or somewhat important, according to the survey. This included 69 percent of Republicans, and 80 percent of respondents in states that did not opt for Medicaid expansion.
