209 Nurses Strike at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Massachusetts

Roughly 209 unionized nurses from Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass., are striking for the day over failed contract negotiations.

The Massachusetts Nurses Association, which represents the striking nurses, and Baystate Franklin have been negotiating for a year and have yet to reach an agreement. The MNA has said proposals from hospital parent Baystate Health System included unfair labor practices, such as increased use of overtime and disciplinary consequences for sick time.

The strike began at 7 a.m. and will last 24 hours. Baystate Franklin has enacted its contingency plan and brought in replacement nurses for the duration of the strike.
