10 Hospitals, Health Systems That Recently Changed Names

The following hospital name changes were announced in the past two months, beginning with the most recent.

1. St. Joseph Health System in California Tweaks Name
Orange, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health System is making a slight adjustment to its name, dropping "System" to become St. Joseph Health.

2. Cheboygan Memorial Reopens as McLaren Northern Michigan
The former Cheboygan Memorial Hospital reopened its emergency room this month under the name McLaren Northern Michigan, Cheboygan Campus after a six-week closure.

3. Washington's Evergreen Healthcare Adopts New Name, Logo
Kirkland, Wash.-based Evergreen Healthcare unveiled its new name and logo as EvergreenHealth in early May.

4. Sisters of Mercy Oklahoma to Roll Out New Branding
Sisters of Mercy Health Systems, based in St. Louis, has announced it will roll out its new brand identity to its Oklahoma hospitals beginning June 1. The health system will be known simply as "Mercy" across its regions. Mercy began introducing its new name and symbol to its other regions beginning in September of last year.

5. Tennessee Hospital Gets New Name, Logo Under Capella-St. Thomas Partnership
White County Community Hospital in Sparta, Tenn., will be renamed Highlands Medical Center under a new merger with Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health. The hospital was formerly owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare.

6. Broward Health's Name Change Sparks Opposition
A plan to drop "Medical Center" from each hospital name in the Broward Health system has stirred opposition from some physicians. Under the plan, Broward General will become Broward Health Medical Center, Coral Springs (Fla.) Medical Center will become Broward Health Coral Springs, Imperial Point Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale will become Broward Health Imperial Point and North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, Fla., will transition to Broward Health North.

7. HCA's Research Belton Hospital Becomes Belton Regional Med Center

Research Belton (Mo.) Hospital, part of the HCA Midwest Health System in Kansas City, Mo., has announced a name change to Belton Regional Medical Center, effective April 1.

8. Palomar Pomerado Health Changes Name, Logo to Boost Name Recognition
Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Pomerado Health shortened its name to Palomar Health and adopted a new logo in late March.

9. Collier Health Services Changes Name to Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida
Collier Health Services in Immokalee, Fla., changed its name to Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida and adopted a new logo. The new logo represents the four practice areas of Healthcare Network: children, dental, women and families.

10. BryanLGH Health in Nebraska to Change Name
Lincoln, Neb.-based BryanLGH Health System is losing the name it adopted after a 1997 merger and is renaming itself Bryan Health. BryanLGH Medical Center, comprised of an East and West campus, will be renamed Bryan Medical Center. The name change is expected to be finalized in October.
