10 healthcare layoffs in April

The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in April. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Care New England eliminates jobs at multiple hospitals
Providence, R.I.-based Care New England is eliminating jobs at multiple hospitals, with the majority being cut at its flagship Women & Infants Hospital.

2. UMass Medical School to lay off roughly 65 employees
Worcester-based University of Massachusetts Medical School plans to lay off approximately 65 employees after the school's Commonwealth Medicine division opted not to renew a contract providing preauthorization services to MassHealth.

3. Mid-Columbia Medical Center cuts 11 jobs
Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore., laid off 11 employees.

4. KentuckyOne Health to lay off about 150 employees
Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health is laying off about 150 employees, or roughly 1 percent of its total workforce.

5. UP Health System-Marquette eliminates dozens of jobs
UP Health System-Marquette (Mich.), a 307-bed specialty care hospital owned by Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint, cut a few dozen jobs.

6. Kentucky hospital cuts jobs, delays ER expansion as patient volume sags
Methodist Hospital in Henderson, Ky., is restructuring operations, and 61 jobs will be eliminated in the process.

7. Victor Valley Global Medical Center lays off 18 workers
Victorville, Calif.-based Victor Valley Global Medical Center laid off 18 employees.

8. CHI St. Alexius lays off another 25 employees
In its latest round of layoffs, CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, N.D., cut 25 employees.

9. Louisiana long-term care hospital to close by June 3
Ruston-based LifeCare Specialty Hospital of North Louisiana will shutter its facility and terminate all employees by June 3.

10. Trios Health cuts 95 FTEs to improve finances
Kennewick, Wash.-based Trios Health, part of the Kennewick Public Hospital District, is reducing its workforce through various measures, including layoffs.
