UCSF Medical Center Receives $50M to Name Women's Center for Quality Advocate Betty Moore

Gordon and Betty Moore have gifted $50 million to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center to help fund a women's hospital in Mission Bay, Calif., and to advance activities at the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health.

Gordon Moore is a co-founder of Intel. According to a UCSF news release, Betty Moore is a leading patient safety advocate. The husband and wife duo established their foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, in 2000 to fund research in science, nursing, patient care and environmental conservation, according to the release.

The future UCSF Betty Irene Moore Women's Hospital will open its 289-bed facility some time in February of 2015.

"Gordon and I are delighted to partner with UCSF in establishing the first dedicated women’s hospital in the Bay Area and to build upon the already stellar Center of Excellence in Women’s Health," said Mrs. Moore to UCSF. "We can think of no better place for this investment and look forward to witnessing further advances in the research and care for women patients. Together with UCSF, we will drive a new era of women’s health."
