Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Fredericksburg, Va., and Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center in Richmond announced they will jointly provide radiation oncology services at SRMC's new cancer center.

SRMC and VCU Massey Cancer Center partnered under an agreement between SRMC's parent company, Richmond-based HCA Virginia Health System, and VCU Massey Cancer Center's parent organization, Richmond-based VCU Health System.

SRMC's $7 million, 7,000-square-foot cancer center will include a linear accelerator, a CT simulator and mobile PET/CT equipment. The center will also be affiliated with Nashville, Tenn.-based Sarah Cannon Research Institute, a strategic research organization formed in 2004 by Nashville-based HCA and the physician practice Tennessee Oncology.

The new cancer center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2013.
