Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center appoints Dr. Julie Freischlag CEO
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., selected Julie Freischlag, MD, as its new president and CEO, effective April 2017. She currently serves as University of California, Davis' vice chancellor of human health sciences and school of medicine dean.
Dr. Freischlag joined UC Davis in February 2014. In her current roles, she oversees UC Davis Health's academic, research and clinical programs, including the school of medicine, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, the 1,000-member physician practice group and UC Davis Medical Center. Prior to joining UC Davis, she served as the first female surgeon-in-chief at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Dr. Freischlag is presently the president of the Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation. She is the immediate past president of the Society for Vascular Surgery and a past president of the Association of VA Surgeons. She completed her surgical residency and vascular fellowship at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles.
Dr. Freischlag succeeds John D. McConnell, MD, who will transition to a new position at the medical center.
