UNM Health Sciences Center names new vice chancellor for clinical affairs

Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center selected Michael E. Richards, MD, to serve as vice chancellor for clinical affairs.

Dr. Richards is the executive physician-in-chief of the UNM Health System, which comprises the Health Sciences Center's clinical operations. He previously served as director of the UNM Center for Disaster Medicine as well as chair of the emergency medicine department and chief of staff at UNM Hospital.

Dr. Richards also worked as medical director of the EMS Bureau at the New Mexico Department of Health.

"He will participate in the oversight of the CEOs of each of the clinical units to ensure that each Health System program and initiative is properly integrated and aligned in support of the institution's vision, mission and goals," said Paul B. Roth, MD, chancellor for health sciences and CEO of the health system.
