UC Irvine Medical Center CEO Terry Belmont to retire

Terry Belmont, CEO of University of California Irvine Medical Center in Orange, has announced his retirement, effective June 30, according to L.A. Biz.

Mr. Belmont will also retire from his position as associate vice chancellor for medical center affairs. He plans to stay involved in healthcare part time, he wrote in a letter to staff announcing his retirement.

Mr. Belmont led the 412-bed acute care hospital since March 2009. He stepped into the leadership role at a rocky time for the medical center. It was transitioning to a new facility and facing the possible loss of federal funding due to allegations of falsifying records, inadequate staffing and broken equipment, according to the report.

During his tenure, Mr. Belmont led improvement, expansion and renovation projects, which include a new hospital, clinical lab building, a 10-year master planning project, a cancer center and an eye institute. UC Irvine Medical Center has now been ranked a top hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 12 years in a row.

Prior to joining UC Irvine, Mr. Belmont served as CEO of Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.

He leaves his current position with a total compensation package of $821,678, according to the report.
