Stephen P. Miller to head Kentucky Medicaid: 5 things to know

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin (R) has appointed Stephen P. Miller as the state's Medicaid commissioner.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Miller.

1. He has more than 20 years of financial management experience in healthcare.

2. For the past 24 years, Mr. Miller, a certified public accountant, has served as vice president of finance with the Kentucky Hospital Association.

3. In his role with the Kentucky Hospital Association, he helped with the development of KHA's position on pending legislation and monitored federal and state reimbursement issues, according to a news release. He also worked with Kentucky Medicaid and Cabinet leadership on many issues related to hospital reimbursement and regulatory issues.

4. Prior to his work with KHA, Mr. Miller was executive director of Louisville, Ky.-based Ten Broeck Hospital. He also was previously COO of Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Louisville, CFO of Our Lady of Peace Hospital and regional controller of American Healthcare Management in Dallas.

5. Mr. Miller earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Louisville.
