St. Mary's Hospital President Dr. Frank Byrne announces retirement

Frank Byrne, MD, president of St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wis., has announced he will retire Jan. 30, 2015, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal.

St. Mary's Hospital is owned by St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, which acquired Madison-based Dean Clinic last year. Dean, a for-profit integrated healthcare organization, provides medical services through a network of Dean or St. Mary's-owned clinics throughout southern Wisconsin. SSM Health Care will search for a new president for the hospital, and Dr. Byrne will remain on the board of St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, according to the article.

Dr. Byrne has served as president of St. Mary's Hospital for the past 10 years and is credited with doubling the hospital's size with the 2008 completion of an expansion project and the opening of St. Mary's Sun Prairie (Wis.) Emergency Center.

With the Dean acquisition settled and new regional leaders in place at SSM Health Care, now is a good time to leave, Dr. Byrne told the Wisconsin State Journal.
