Saint Joseph Mercy Health System names regional president, CEO

Rob Casalou, current president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (Mich.) and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston in Howell, Mich., has been appointed regional president and CEO of Ann Arbor-based Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Mr. Casalou became president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston hospitals in 2008. He is credited with playing a key role in the development of many partnerships, including the merger with Ann Arbor-based IHA Physician Group and a master affiliation between SJMHA and University of Michigan Health System, also in Ann Arbor.

Before joining SJMHS, Mr. Casalou spent nearly 20 years at Detroit-based St. John Providence Health System in various leadership roles. He oversaw the construction of Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Mich., where he served as its president and CEO until 2008.

Mr. Casalou also serves as chair-elect of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, chair of the American Heart Association metro Detroit chapter's board of directors and board member of the Midwest affiliate of the AHA and vice chair of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan board of directors.

He will succeed Garry C. Faja, who is retiring Dec. 31 after 32 years as CEO.

Mr. Casalou holds a master's degree in business administration and healthcare administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
