Rich Newell named CEO of Pottstown Memorial Medical Center: 4 things to know

Pottstown (Pa.) Memorial Medical Center has named Rich Newell CEO, effective July 27.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Newell.

1. Mr. Newell brings more than a decade of healthcare administration experience to the role.

2. Mr. Newell joins the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center from Carlisle (Pa.) Regional Medical Center, where he has served as CEO since 2013. Prior to serving as CEO, he was administrator/executive director, operations. He first joined the hospital in 2010 as COO.

3. During his tenure at Carlisle, Mr. Newell built an alliance with Milton S.Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., to strengthen clinical resources available in the Carlisle community, including stroke telehealth and cancer services, according to a news release. The hospitals recently announced an expansion of the relationship as Hershey's Department of Emergency Medicine will provide more emergency care physicians and resources in the Carlisle emergency room.

4. Mr. Newell "brings tremendous experience and a passion for quality, service-oriented care that will continue moving our hospital forward," Richard Whittaker, MD, chairman of the PottstownMemorialMedicalCenter board, said in a news release. "Rich is passionate about healthcare and we look forward to working with him to build upon the strengths we have in place."
