National Association of County and City Health Officials elects new board of directors

The National Association of County and City Health Officials, a nonprofit association representing approximately 2,800 local health departments across the country, has elected a new president, vice president and board of directors for a 2016-17 term.

The newly elected president of NACCHO is Claude-Alix Jacob, chief public health officer for the City of Cambridge, Mass. Mr. Jacob oversees the Cambridge Public Health Department, which is operated by Cambridge Health alliance, a safety-net healthcare system. Previously, he was a senior health administrator at the Illinois Department of Public Health, Baltimore City Health Department and Sinai Health System in Chicago.

Umair Shah, MD, executive director of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services in Houston, is the new vice president of NACCHO. Prior to joining HCPHES, Dr. Shah was the CMO at the Galveston County Health District in Texas and an emergency department physician at Houston's Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The public health leaders will begin their official responsibilities July 1.
