Highmark Chief Enlists Former UPMC Execs to Build Provider Base

The former University of Pittsburgh Medical Center chief who now heads the new provider organization for health insurer Highmark has recruited former UPMC executives and employees to build the payor's physician ranks, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.

John Paul, president of Highmark's provider organization, left UPMC as COO in 2003. The provider organization will oversee Pittsburgh-based West Penn Allegheny Health System and Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Jefferson Hills, Pa., once those affiliations are finalized. The division will also manage Highmark's physician and outpatient clinics.

Recent additions to the Highmark provider division include:

• Patricia Liebman was named executive vice president. She was previously CEO of UPMC Health Plan.

• Jacqueline Dailey was named CIO. She was previously vice president for IT solutions at UPMC.

• Paul Sikora was named chief technology officer. He held a similar position at UPMC before joining Highmark in December 2011.

• Megan Sanders will oversee physician recruitment. She previously held a similar position with UPMC.
