Erie County Medical Center Corp. appoints COO and chief people officer: 7 things to know

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Erie County Medical Center Corp. has appointed two new executives.

Here are seven things to know about the new executives.

Mary Laski Hoffman, RN, has been appointed COO of ECMC Corp.

1. Ms. Hoffman has served as ECMC senior vice president of operations since July 2014. 

2. Prior to ECMC, Ms. Hoffman was COO of Lawley Benefits Group from 2009-2013.  Before that, she served as president and CEO of Kenmore (N.Y.) Mercy Hospital, part of Buffalo-based Catholic Health System, from 2004-2009. 

3. Ms. Hoffman's previous roles also include: vice president of professional affairs for CHS (1999-2004), vice president of professional services at KMH (1990-1999) and director of quality review activities at KMH (1988-1990).

4. "Mary has extensive healthcare experience and expertise.  Over the past year, Mary's performance and leadership at ECMC and within the community has identified her as the ideal candidate for the role of chief operating officer for ECMC," ECMC Corp. CEO Richard C. Cleland said in a news release.

Julia Culkin-Jacobia was appointed chief people officer of ECMC Corp. 

5. Ms. Culkin-Jacobia will serve ECMC in a senior administrative position encompassing responsibility for the human resource function throughout the corporation. 

6. Prior to joining ECMC, Ms. Culkin-Jacobia was director of global compensation and benefits for Greatbatch in Buffalo, N.Y., from March 2014 to June 2015. She served as vice president of administration and vice president of human resources for Buffalo-based Synacore from 2004-2013.  Before that, she was compensation manager for the Delaware North Companies in Buffalo.  She was also previously a senior compensation analyst for Pitney Bowes in Stamford, Conn.

7.  "Julia is a versatile human-resources executive with hands-on experience in diverse industries.  She is a team-builder, knowledgeable in personnel issues and organizational development," Mr. Cleland said in a news release. "She encourages learning and promotes increased productivity that results in value-added customer service."
