Dr. Mitchell Jay Cohen to join Denver Health Medical, University of Colorado School of Medicine

Mitchell Jay Cohen, MD, will join Denver Health Medical Center as the director of surgery and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, based in Aurora, as a professor in the department of surgery.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Cohen.

1. He will begin his new roles Aug. 15.

2. At Denver Health, Mr. Cohen will lead the department of surgery and will have responsibility for strategic planning, clinical services and professional and business performance, according to a news release. He will also oversee the department that houses Denver Health's regional American College of Surgeons verified Level I trauma center.

3. As a member of the CU School of Medicine faculty, he will have research space on both the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus in Aurora and the Denver Health campus. His clinical work will be based at Denver Health.

4. Currently, he is professor of surgery in residence at University of California San Francisco and San Francisco General Hospital, where he is also associate trauma medical director and the director of trauma research.

5. Dr. Cohen earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, now the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York City.
