Dr. Ira Jacobson named Chair of Dept. of Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel

Ira Jacobson, MD, has been named chairman of the department of medicine at New York City-based Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

Dr. Jacobson is a renowned hepatology and liver disease expert and was the principal investigator of several significant trials that helped shape hepatitis C treatment. Dr. Jacobson comes to Mount Sinai from three decades of service at New York City-based Weill Cornell Medical College. In his most recent position at Weill Cornell, Dr. Jacobson was chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology, Vincent Astor Distinguished Professor of Medicine and medical director of the Center for the Study of Hepatitis C.  

Dr. Jacobson earned his medical degree from New York City-based Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and completed a fellowship at Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital.
