Commonwealth Care Alliance names CMO: 7 things to know

Commonwealth Care Alliance, a Massachusetts nonprofit, prepaid care delivery system, has named Toyin Ajayi, MD, CMO.

Here are seven things to know about Dr. Ajayi.

1. In her role, she will oversee all aspects of clinical care delivery, care coordination and clinical operations at CCA, according to a news release.

2. Dr. Ajayi will direct CCA's clinical programs, including:

  • Statewide clinical groups that provide primary care enhancement, care management and care coordination
  • Two community respite facilities that provide acute psychiatric crisis services
  • Commonwealth Community Care, CCA's primary care affiliate, which provides integrated primary care to individuals with the most complex needs at four practice locations across Massachusetts
  • An end-of-life program
  • A comprehensive care transitions and post-acute care program

3. Dr. Ajayi will also spearhead efforts "to improve the quality and effectiveness of care through innovative services, strategic partnerships and targeted clinical interventions," officials said. 

4. Additionally, Dr. Ajayi practices medicine as part of an interdisciplinary team serving CCA's medically and socially vulnerable beneficiaries, many of whom are elderly and home-bound.

5. She has privileges at Boston Medical Center, where she cares for CCA members admitted to the hospital on CCA's shared inpatient unit.

6. Prior to joining CCA in 2013, Dr. Ajayi was an attending physician at Boston Medical Center's department of family medicine and a clinical instructor at Boston University's School of Public Health.

7. Dr. Ajayi earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford (Calif.) University, a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Cambridge (England), and her medical degree from King's College London School of Medicine.
