Chesapeake Regional Medical Center names retired military rear admiral COO: 4 things to know

Chesapeake (Va.) Regional Medical Center has chosen retired Rear Adm. Alton L. Stocks, MD, as its new COO.

Dr. Stocks started at CRMC May 26.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Stocks.

1. Dr. Stocks has more than four decades of dedicated military service. Most of that time was spent in medicine, including time as the commander of Bethesda, Md.-based Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Navy Medicine National Capital Area from 2011-13, according to CRMC.

2. Dr. Stocks' career includes appointments as Naval Forces Europe & U.S. 6th Fleet surgeon and U.S. Fleet Forces Command fleet surgeon, where he was deployed as the Joint Task Force Haiti surgeon in January 2010.

3. Dr. Stocks most recently served as deputy chief of the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery for the Wounded, Ill and Injured Program.

4. Dr. Stocks studied mathematics at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., then earned his medical degree from the Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla., according to CRMC. Dr. Stocks also attended the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School Executive Development program in Chapel Hill, N.C.
