America's Essential Hospitals, Essential Hospitals Institute Announce New Leadership

America's Essential Hospitals and its research arm, Essential Hospitals Institute, the leading association and research arm for hospitals and health systems with more than 220 members, announced the election of new members and officers to its governing committees on Monday.

William B. Walker, MD, director and health officer of Contra Costa (Calif.) Health Services, has been named chair of the association's board of directors.

Johnese M. Spisso, RN, chief health system officer of Seattle-based UW Medicine and vice president for medical affairs at the Seattle-based University of Washington and UW Medicine, and Reginald W. Coopwood, MD, president and CEO of Memphis, Tenn.-based Regional One Health, were elected as the new chair-elect and treasurer, respectively.

The board also welcomed the following new at-large member directors:
•    John M. Haupert, president and CEO of Atlanta-based Grady Health System
•    Wright L. Lassiter III, CEO of Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda Health System
•    Ramanathan Raju, MD, president and CEO, New York City (N.Y.) Health and Hospitals Corporation
•    Donna K. Sollenberger, executive vice president and CEO, Galveston, Texas-based UTMB Health System, the University of Texas Medical Branch
•    Roxane A. Townsend, MD, vice chancellor for clinical programs and CEO, Little Rock, Ark.-based UAMS Medical Center, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

The Essential Hospitals Institute Board of Directors announced its new chair is Caroline M. Jacobs, MPH, MSEd, senior vice president of safety and human development at New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

The Institute Board also announced the new secretary and chair-elect is Anna M. Roth, RN, CEO of Contra Costa Regional Medical Center; the new treasurer is Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, executive associate dean of clinical services at Grady Health System and CMO of the Emory Care Foundation; the new member director is Delvecchio S. Finley, CEO of Torrance, Calif.-based Harbor-UCLA Medical Center; and the new outside directors are Ann Scott Blouin, PhD, RN, executive vice president of customer relations for The Joint Commission based in Oakbrook Terrace and Erica Murray, president and CEO of the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems.
