7 things to know about University Medical Center's future CMO

University Medical Center in Lebanon, Tenn. has chosen James W. Morris II, MD, as the organization's new CMO, according to a Lebanon Democrat report.  

Here are seven things to know about Dr. Morris.

1. Dr. Morris will begin his role Aug. 3.

2. Dr. Morris has been a medical staff member at the hospital since the first patient was admitted in 1979.

3. In his new role as CMO, Dr. Morris said he plans to "interface with the community," according to the report.

4. Dr. Morris is a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon.

5. Dr. Morris earned a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and a medical degree from University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tenn. He then went to Florida for an intensive yearlong internship and completed his general surgery residency in Florida.

6. Dr. Morris established his general surgery private practice in Lebanon in July 1978 and will retire from that practice June 30.  

7. Dr. Morris is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, charter member of the American Society of General Surgeons, member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, fellow of the Southeastern Surgical Congress, past chief of staff and chief of surgery for University Medical Center, past president of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Alumni Council, member of the University of Tennessee Alumni Association Board of Governors and serves as vice chairman of  the board of trustees for University Medical Center.
