14 latest CEO moves in hospitals, health systems

The following moves among hospital and health system presidents and CEOs were announced or implemented in the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare has new CEOs at two of its hospitals. Marilyn Margolis, RN, is the new CEO of Emory Johns Creek (Ga.) Hospital, and Daniel Owens is CEO of University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta. Both assumed their new roles and responsibilities Jan. 4.

2. John Marzinzik started as the new president and CEO of Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H., Dec. 19, 2014.

3. Duke University Health System named its new president and CEO: Eugene Washington, MD, the current CEO of UCLA Health System. Dr. Washington begins his role with Raleigh, N.C.-based Duke April 1.

4. Kenneth Sable, MD, is now president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J. Dr. Sable most recently served as executive vice president and COO of Saint Peter's Healthcare System in New Brunswick, N.J.

5. After serving for 27 years as president and CEO of Frederick, Md.-based Calvert Memorial Hospital and Calvert Health System, James Xinis announced he will retire on Feb. 28.

6. Jeff Thompson, MD, will step down from his role as CEO of La Crosse, Wis.-based Gundersen Health this year after 14 years.

7. The Detroit Medical Center announced that DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital CEO, Iris Taylor, PhD, RN, will retire March 27.

8. Raleigh, N.C.-based Rex Healthcare named its COO, Steve Burriss, interim president. Mr. Burriss replaces David Strong, who left the system to become CEO of Orlando Health.

9. Moab (Utah) Regional Hospital CEO Robert Austin informed the hospital's governing board that he will retire early this year. Mr. Austin served as the hospital's CEO for just under two years.

10. Baltimore-based Sheppard Pratt Health System CEO Steven S. Sharfstein, MD, announced he will retire July 1, 2016, after serving the mental health system for 30 years.

11. Robert Ingala, president and CEO of Greater Lawrence Family Health Center in Lawrence, Mass., is stepping down.

12. David Freed, former Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital CEO, has been named Rockland County's acting commissioner of hospitals to lead the Summit Park Hospital & Nursing Care Center in Pomona, N.Y.

13. Aiken (S.C.) Regional Medical Centers appointed Vance V. Reynolds as CEO.
