10 recent hospital, health system executive moves

The following hospital and health system executive moves occurred within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Marty Hauser, CEO of Akron, Ohio-based SummaCare and chief government relations officer of Summa Health System, will leave at the end of the year. Bill Powel, Summa Health System's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, and Patrice Lange, senior vice president for planning and corporate support, will depart from the system on Nov. 3.

2. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health announced the retirement of Frank Nask, president and CEO, upon the completion of his contract on March 31, 2015. 

3. Cincinnati-based Mercy Health has announced the retirement of James May, the system's COO, as well as the appointment of six executives.

John Starcher will rejoin Mercy Health as executive vice president of operations.

Yousuf Ahmad, DrPH, will become senior vice president of system development of Mercy Health.

Deborah Bloomfield is being promoted to executive vice president and CFO of Mercy Health.

Jerry Judd is being promoted to senior vice president and treasurer of Mercy Health.

Jane Durney Crowley, currently serving as executive vice president of clinical integration and business development, will becomes executive vice president and chief transformation officer.

Brian Smith, currently the executive vice president of north markets, will become executive vice president of operations.

4. Paulette Evans, RN, was named president and CEO of Hospital Sisters Health System St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, Ill. She has been serving as the hospital's interim president and CEO since June.

5. Louisville, Ky.-based KentuckyOne Health Medical Group named David Cook, CPA, MBA, CMPE, COO of the Louisville market.

6. Plano, Texas-based LifeCare Holdings, which operates LifeCare Hospitals, also in Plano, appointed Frank J. Battafarano as interim COO.

7. Christine M. Candio was appointed president and CEO of Chesterfield, Mo.-based St. Luke's Hospital, effective in January 2015.

8. John Marshall, CEO of Dickson, Tenn.-based TriStar Horizon Medical Center, announced plans to retire at the end of the year.

9. Palmetto Health and the University of South Carolina, located in Columbia, announced the appointment of Les Hall, MD, as the first CEO of the Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group and executive dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

10. Fort Mohave, Ariz.-based Valley View Medical Center appointed Fred Capozello, MBA, CPA, as CEO, effective immediately.
