11 recent hospital, health system executive moves

The following hospital and health system executive moves occurred within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. Indianapolis-based Community Health Network appointed Joe Kessler as its CFO.

2. Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica, N.Y., formed in March through the affiliation of Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare and St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, appointed John Lynch as CIO.

3. Donna Katen-Bahensky, president and CEO of Madison, Wis.-based UW Hospital and Clinics, will retire Sept. 1 upon elimination of her position.

4. Cathleen Wheatley, MSN, RN, will become chief nursing executive and vice president of clinical operations at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sept. 8.

5. Kaiser Permanente's Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu, announced its administrator, Peter Makowski left his position to pursue new hospital and health system leadership opportunities.

6. Karen Flaherty-Oxler is the new president of Lancaster (Pa.) General Hospital, effective Aug. 18.

7. Michael Rindler resigned and will immediately retire from his role as CEO St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.

8. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health's CFO Bob Reed announced he will retire in January 2015. He will be replaced by Jeff Sprague, Sutter Health's senior vice president of financial operations.

9. Gianrico Farrugia, MD, was named CEO of Mayo Clinic's Jacksonville, Fla., campus beginning in 2015.

10. James Tyler was named CEO of Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va., part of Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance.

11. Dr. John Warner Hospital in Clinton, Ill., named Robert Wolleben as its interim CEO.
