The Johns Hopkins Health System in Baltimore is one of the most prestigious health systems in the country, and as CFO of both the health system and The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Ron Werthman carries responsibilities few others do.

Ron Werthman is CFO of the Johns Hopkins Health System.Mr. Werthman, who has more than 35 years of healthcare and higher education financial experience, became CFO of the Johns Hopkins Health Systems and Hopkins Hospital in 1993. The multi-billion dollar system continues to garner the highest ratings from Standard & Poor's, Fitch Ratings and Moody's Investors Services, and he attributes that to the health system's innovative financial structure and emphasis on caring for the chronically ill.

"[Healthcare reform] requires us to think about how change will occur and to make sure that we participate as leaders in that change," Mr. Werthman said in a 2010 interview with the health system's publication. "We must rationalize care delivery models that improve quality and outcome and serve our mission, while also being productive…I think part of our institutional responsibility is to examine how we care for chronic conditions such as sickle cell, diabetes and congestive heart failure and then, when appropriate, educate folks from our community, nationally and internationally about the benefits of new care models."

Prior to working at Johns Hopkins, Mr. Werthman was CFO of Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He also served as CFO of St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y., and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
