CFO Melony Williams Goodhand: UAMS Medical Center's Budget Leader

For the past eight-plus years, Melony Williams Goodhand has served as vice chancellor for finance and CFO of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, one of the largest health systems in the state.

Melony Williams Goodhand is CFO of UAMS Medical Center.Ms. Goodhand oversees all financial direction of the academic medical center, which includes a 434-bed hospital and the Arkansas Children's Hospital. For fiscal year 2012, Ms. Goodhand projects UAMS will have total patient care revenue of $909.8 billion and roughly $203 million in charity care.

When Ms. Goodhand, a certified public accountant, was hired, she was viewed as an "effective leader and manager" for UAMS, according to I. Dodd Wilson, MD, former chancellor of UAMS. She said she joined the organization to take on the challenges associated with academic medical centers.

"I chose to come to UAMS because it is a challenge that breeds opportunity in a thriving and growing academic medical center," she said in 2004.

Before joining UAMS Medical Center, Ms. Goodhand served as vice president for finance and chief compliance officer at Genesys Health System, an integrated health system based in Grand Blanc, Mich.
