CFO Frederick Savelsbergh: Working Up the Ranks of Baylor Health

Little did Frederick Savelsbergh know that when he graduated from North Texas State University in 1982 with a double major in accounting and economics and accepted a staff accountant position at Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System, he would become the head financial honcho roughly 30 years later.

Fred Savelsbergh has been at Baylor Health since 1982.Mr. Savelsbergh is the CFO of Baylor Health Care System and had been the interim CFO from 2008 to 2009. He oversees all financial functions of the health system, which recorded $5.2 billion in total assets in fiscal year 2011 to go along with $4.08 billion in total operating revenue.

He has been within the Baylor system since he first took the staff accountant job, serving various roles along the way. Mr. Savelsbergh was CFO and later the interim president of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine (Texas), and he also served as CFO of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Baylor's flagship facility.

Mr. Savelsbergh is the vice chairman on the policy committee on hospital billing and charges for the Texas Hospital Association, and in December 2006, he was appointed to the Texas Health Care System Integrity Partnerships, which has worked to create new policies for future healthcare models in Texas.
