CEO Vincent Caponi: Leading Growth at St. Vincent Health

Vincent Caponi, MBA, FACHE, joined St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis as CEO in September 1998. He leads the integrated healthcare network of 19 facilities serving 46 counties in Indiana. His dedication to leading St. Vincent is evident in the growth the system has experienced under his leadership.

Since Mr. Caponi's appointment as CEO, the faith-based hospital system has increased its charity care and community benefit totals to more than $179 million in fiscal year 2010. The system has added the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent in Indianapolis, St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis and St. Vincent Medical Center Northeast in Fishers, Ind., which includes an 110,000 square-foot expansion project. Mr. Caponi has also overseen multiple joint ventures, program developments, hospital expansions and affiliations with health providers and community partners.

In 2007, Ascension Health in St. Louis, St. Vincent Health's parent company, named Mr. Caponi ministry market leader for Indiana. In that position, he oversees 22 healthcare facilities. In 2010, Ascension Health named Mr. Caponi a ministry market leader for the state of Wisconsin. In this role, he oversees Columbia St. Mary's Health System in Milwaukee, which is comprised of three hospitals, 65 community clinics, the Columbia College of Nursing in Glendale, Wis., a partnership with the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin in Glendale, and five urgent care centers.

Prior to joining St. Vincent Health, Mr. Caponi served as president and CEO at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. Earlier in his career, he served as president and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, Ga., and CEO of United Memorial Hospital in Greenville, Mich. He was also assistant administrator of the Memorial Hospital in Owosso, Mich.
