CEO Tim McManus: Keeping No Secrets at Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals

Staff -
Tim McManus, FACHE, has served as CEO of CJW Medical Center's Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals in Richmond, Va., since June 2012. The hospitals are a part of Richmond-based HCA Virginia Health System.

Prior to taking the reins at CJW's two hospitals, Mr. McManus served as president and CEO of Reston (Va.) Hospital Center and HCA Northern Virginia. He has almost 20 years of healthcare leadership experience and has worked with hospitals in six states during that time.

When he joined Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals as CEO, Mr. McManus started a blog, called Tim's Take, as a way to interact with hospital staff — but Tim's Take is not Mr. McManus' first experience with blogging. He started blogging in 2011 as CEO of Reston Hospital.

In his current blog, he encourages hospital staff and care providers to interact with him and share comments or concerns though the blog, and he isn't afraid to share is own stories and opinions as well. "I have a strong belief that we should be promoting a culture of no secrets, so I have a bias of sharing both the great stories as well as the challenging issue we face," he wrote in his first Tim's Take entry in June 2012. He updates the blog multiple times each month.

Mr. McManus earned a master's of health services-health finance and management degree from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore.
