CEO Steven Lipstein: Powerful Leader at BJC HealthCare

Steven H. Lipstein has served as the president and CEO of St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare, one of the largest healthcare organizations in the nation, since 1999. He is one of the longest-tenured health system CEOs in the nation.

Mr. Lipstein's career in healthcare started on the East Coast before moving to the Midwest. He held positions at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Johns Hopkins Hospitals and Health System in Baltimore and the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System.

In addition to his duties leading BJC, Mr. Lipstein serves as a board member for Ameren, an electrical utility company, and is on Teach for America's St. Louis Regional Advisory Board and the Board of Trustees for Emory University.

Mr. Lipstein is also heavily involved in the healthcare industry beyond leading BJC. He serves on the St. Louis Regional Health Commission and on the board of the Missouri Hospital Association. Also, in 2010, he was named vice chair of the board of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute. All of this experience in healthcare earned Mr. Lipstein a spot on Becker's Hospital Review's 2012 list of "50 of the Most Powerful People in Healthcare."

Mr. Lipstein earned attended Duke University in Durham for graduate school.
