CEO Richard Cordova: Supporting Diversity at Children's Hospital Los Angeles

Richard Cordova has served as the president and CEO of Children's Hospital Los Angeles since 2006. He also serves as a member of the hospital's board of trustees. Richard Cordova


Prior to joining Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Mr. Cordova worked with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals. He has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare administration.

This year, Mr. Cordova began a partnership between Children's Hospital Los Angeles and March of Dimes in order to raise awareness about and funding for babies born premature or with birth defects. "As a business leader, this campaign gives me a unique opportunity to help the community I love. And as a father and grandfather, I can't think of a more important cause than our babies," he said in a March of Dimes press release. His hospital signed on to raise $225,000 for March of Dimes in February 2012.

Mr. Cordova is an advocate of diversity in the workplace. As such, he is a founding member of the National Forum for Latino Healthcare Executives and a past-chair of the Institute for Diversity in Health Management. He also has served as chair of the board of trustees for the Thomas Rivera Policy Institute of the School of Policy, Planning and Development at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

During his career as a healthcare executive, Mr. Cordova has received state and national recognition for his leadership. In 2011, he was named the "CEO of the Year" by the Los Angeles Business Journal. He has also been named one of America's "Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics" by Hispanic Business. In 2010, California State University in Los Angeles named Mr. Cordova its alumnus of the year.
