CEO Raji Kumar: Instilling Confidence at Dallas Medical Center

Raji Kumar has served as CEO of Dallas Medical Center in Farmers Branch, Texas, since April 2010.

Ms. Kumar has more than 13 years of healthcare management experience. Prior to joining Dallas Medical Center, she served as CEO of Oakland Regional Hospital in Southfield, Mich. She has also served as the director of business development and marketing for Select Specialty Hospital in Macomb and Pontiac, Mich.

When Ms. Kumar joined Dallas Medical Center, the hospital was near bankruptcy, and she helped turn the facility around. Part of that process involved making hospital employees, physicians and the community confident in the hospital's viability. "I was very visible. People are not used to seeing the CEO," she said in a previous interview with Becker's Hospital Review. "At first when I started doing rounds, employees thought something was wrong. But, they eventually started warming up. The presence of leadership is very important when people are losing faith."

In recognition for her history of strong leadership, Ms. Kumar was named on Becker's Hospital Review's 2012 list of 120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
