CEO Margaret Van Bree: Leading St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital to Success

Margaret Van Bree, MHA, DrPH, serves as the CEO of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

Dr. Van Bree also serves as a senior vice president of St. Luke's Episcopal Health System, based in Houston. Before she joined St. Luke's in 2009, Dr. Van Bree was the senior vice president and COO of University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison.

Dr. Van Bree has held academic appointments at several universities while continuing management duties. She has taught healthcare management and quality in the U.S. and abroad.

She is a member of the University HealthSystem Consortium and previously served as council chair of the UHC senior operations officers steering committee and on UCH's business strategy council. She is also serving a three-year term on the Texas Hospital Association's board of trustees.

While Dr. Van Bree has been at the helm, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital has received many national awards. The hospital has been named a top 10 cardiovascular center by U.S. News & World Report and was named one of the best places to work in Houston by the Houston Business Journal, among others.

Dr. Van Bree has also received recognition for her work. She was on Becker's Hospital Review's 2012 list of 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
