CEO Gary Fybel: Leading Excellent Nurses at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla
Mr. Fybel has more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience. Before joining Scripps, Mr. Fybel was the administrator and COO of Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, Calif., and interim president and CEO of Saint Joseph Health System, Humboldt County in Eureka, Calif., among other positions.
During his 12 years at the helm of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Mr. Fybel has led the hospital to many successes. The hospital was the first in San Diego to be recognized as a Magnet hospital for excellence in nursing in 2005, according to the hospital. Scripps La Jolla was then re-designated as a Magnet facility in 2010. "Magnet re-designation is not only a tremendous award for our nurses, it reflects on everyone at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla," Mr. Fybel said in a release. "We are a better provider today because of our Magnet designation."
Mr. Fybel has also received recognitions for excellence. In 2009, he received the American College of Healthcare Executives Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Award for his contributions to the achievement of ACHE goals and advancement of healthcare management excellence.
Mr. Fybel's involvement with ACHE has not stopped at the award. He is currently serving as a regent for ACHE's San Diego and Imperial Counties district, a position he will hold through 2014.
Mr. Fybel earned a MBA from California State University in Long Beach.
