CEO Ashley McClellan: Increasing Employee Engagement at Medical Center of Lewisville
Ashley McClellan has served as president and CEO of Medical Center of Lewisville (Texas), a member of HCA Healthcare, since December 2011. She has been instrumental in expanding the hospital, inspiring a high-level of employee engagement and pursuing care excellence.
Ms. McClellan helped to design the first freestanding emergency department with an attached outpatient-imaging center in North Texas, the Flower Mound Emergency Center. She has increased employee engagement at the hospital to be in HCA's Top 10 percent of hospitals.
"Medical Center of Lewisville is pleased to have been in the top 10 percent of all HCA Hospitals for Employee Engagement the past 2 years in a row. How do we do it? We give our employees a 'voice,' whether this is through our employee advisory committee made up of front line employees or our 'Ask Senior Team' blog where employees can post anonymous questions or compliments through our intranet site. The greatest asset and resource to a hospital are the employees. Therefore, it is imperative that we create a healthy work environment. When employees enjoy their work, the patients and physicians are more likely to have a positive experience as well," says Ms. McClellan.
Ms. McClellan also decreased emergency department turnaround times and supported the hospital in pursuing many recent accreditations such as Joint Commission Disease Specific Certifications for total hip, total knee and inpatient diabetes.
Ms. McClellan is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She also gives back to the community as a member of the Flower Mound Rotary Club and as a wish granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas.
Before her appointment as president and CEO, Ms. McClellan served as COO of the Medical Center of Lewisville for two years.
