Jackie Drees -

Elvie, a U.K.-based technology company that develops female health products, received $42 million in a new round of financing.

Supporting companies of the finance round include Octopus Ventures and Impact Ventures U.K. Elvie plans to use the funding for research and development efforts as well as product distribution across North and South America, Europe and Asia.

In 2015, Elvie launched the Elvie Trainer. The company's first product, the training device and accompanying app help women strengthen their pelvic floor muscles through short workouts that provide real-time biofeedback. Elvie recently launched its latest product, the Elvie Pump, which is a wearable breast pump that does not make any noise when being used.

"Whether it's menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, women's bodies have been shrouded in taboo for centuries," Elvie CEO Tania Boler, said in a news release. "We know so many issues of womanhood can be improved by technology, and there is so much potential in this space."
