Using secure texting to accelerate workflows, enhance care

Increasingly, healthcare professionals admit to texting in the workplace. The use of mobile devices doesn't have to be a nuisance, however; it can be a tool.

Many organizations have begun using secure texting to ensure they comply with HIPAA rules and regulations, and the results have been largely positive.

For instance, a study recently published in the Journal of Hospital Medicine found inpatient medicine teams that began using HIPAA-compliant group messaging smartphone apps in addition to their pagers improved team communication, workflows and physician satisfaction.

Despite the positive results, challenges still exist when it comes to secure texting. Organizations face the need to keep protected health information secure, yet unreliable tools and delayed communication poorly affect patient care.

Nevertheless, utilizing secure texting can allow organizations to accelerate delivery of critical information, enhance patient care and diagnoses and increase staff collaboration and reliability.
