UAB School of Medicine appoints Dr. Matthew Might Personalized Medicine Institute director: 5 points

University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine named Matthew Might, PhD, inaugural director of the Hugh Kaul Personalized Medicine Institute.

Here are five points:

1. Dr. Might was a presidential scholar and an associate professor in computer science and pharmaceutical chemistry at Salt Lake City-based University of Utah.

2. He was also a visiting professor of biomedical informatics at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

3. In January 2015, former President Barack Obama named Dr. Might adviser to the then newly launched Precision Medicine Initiative. In March 2016, he took on a formal role with the Precision Medicine Initiative as a White House official in the executive office of the president.

4. Dr. Might co-founded a company that conducts personalized drug screens for genetic epilepsy.

5. He will take over as inaugural director from Nita Limdi, PharmD, PhD, who has served in the role on an interim basis since the inception of the institute in 2014.
