In 2013, business executives indicated analytics and data science as the area with the highest need of IT talent, according to a McKinsey & Company survey. In 2014, it remained the top area executives need talent, but the need became even greater, according to the latest McKinsey & Company survey.
The survey in 2013 polled 807 executives, and the survey in 2014 polled 713 executives.
Forty percent of respondents in 2013 said analytics and data science was the area where IT talent will become more pressing, and that number increased to 51 percent in 2014.
Here are the top five areas executives indicated a pressing need for IT talent last year:
1. Analytics and data science
2. Joint business and IT expertise
3. Mobile or online development
4. Cloud and distributed computing
5. Data architecture
