Telepsychiatry program in Idaho receives $100,000 grant

The Telepsychiatry Improves Outcomes in Frontier Communities program in Boise, Idaho, has received a $100,000 grant in conjunction with an award from Premier Inc.

Premier, a Charlotte, N.C.-based company that brings together healthcare providers to develop healthcare innovations, granted the Premier Cares Award to the telehealth mental health program. Two physicians in Boise use telepresence to see pediatric and adult patients for mental health consultations in rural Cottonwood and Orofino, Idaho, according to a news release.

Premier also granted five $24,000 awards to other health initiatives across the country. The Premier Cares Award program has been in operation since 1991, selecting one winner and five runners-up.

"Through its remarkable services to help some of the most at-risk patients, this year's Cares Award recipient — Telepsychiatry Improves Outcomes in Frontier Communities - is making a true impact by delivering psychiatry services using telehealth," said Susan DeVore, Premier's president and CEO.
