Survey: Do EHR outages jeopardize patient safety?

Forty-six percent of physicians across the globe have witnessed an EHR malfunction jeopardize patient safety, according to a SERMO survey.

SERMO, a global social network for physicians, asked 3,086 physicians from 26 countries to answer one question: Has an EMR/EHR outage or malfunction ever jeopardized the health or safety of a patient?

Here's how the United States stacks up against eight other countries with more than 50 physician respondents.

1. United States: 55 percent

2. Canada: 46 percent

3. United Kingdom: 46 percent

4. Global average: 46 percent

5. France: 39 percent

6. Mexico: 37 percent

7. Venezuela: 37 percent

8. Spain: 33 percent

9. Italy: 29 percent

10. Germany: 9 percent
