Study: Vendor Dosing eRules Inadequate for Pediatric Patients

Staff -

Vendor-supplied dosing eRules are not optimal for pediatric patients, according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Information Association.

Researchers studied seven months of medication orders and alerts at a large pediatric hospital, selecting 30 medications for a total of 750 dosing rules.

Results showed that the overall accuracy of the eRules was 55.1 percent, exposing a large discrepancy between dosing eRules on commercial products and the actual prescription practices of pediatricians.
