SSM Health to consolidate EHRs onto 1 Epic system

SSM Health in St. Louis is working to bring more than 30 owned and affiliated hospitals and almost 200 clinics onto one enterprise Epic EHR system, according to Health Data Management.

SSM Health has used different Epic systems across its enterprise for roughly a decade. The health system currently uses three systems: one for SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, one for facilities in Wisconsin and one for facilities in Missouri, Illinois and Oklahoma.

SSM Health leadership believes moving to one enterprise EHR will streamline documentation and workflow processes for physicians, according to Health Data Management. It will also likely minimize errors by reducing the need for double-entry into EHRs. The single EHR will help standardize protocols related to admissions, emergency department and referrals, as well.

The consolidation initiative began in the Missouri, Illinois and Oklahoma region. SSM Health plans for this new EHR to go live in July. SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital will go live on the new system in early 2018, and Wisconsin will follow in late 2018.
