Report: 5 ways video technology may improve hospital operations

Jessica Kim Cohen -

There are five key methods healthcare organizations implement to leverage video technology for hospital operations, according to a Wainhouse Research report.

The report, titled "Prescribing New Solutions for Communications in Healthcare" and sponsored by Mediasite, includes input from a survey of 184 healthcare industry executives. Wainhouse Research also conducted in-depth interviews with five healthcare organizations, including health systems and IT vendors, to gauge their attitudes toward video streaming technologies.

Here are five ways video technology might improve hospital operations.

1. Enhancing productivity in clinical care, for example, by live streaming and recording videos of physicians' grand rounds to ensure consistent standards of care.

2. Conducting cost-effective training and onboarding, like recording educational videos to teach physicians how to use new equipment.

3. Understanding service demand by tracking viewership analytics. A healthcare organization might determine which topics stakeholders are most interested in by reviewing frequently-viewed videos.

4. Fostering community across a health system with multiple facilities. One organization, for example, held monthly presentations for all employees which were recorded and uploaded to a shared server.

5. Managing organizational transition, such as using video streaming to deliver a hospital president's message to its associated health centers after a merger or acquisition.
