Rachel Kaprielian named Region I HHS director

Rachel Kaprielian has been chosen to lead the Massachusetts regional office of the federal HHS, effective March 30.

Ms. Kaprielian, the former state secretary of Labor and Workforce Development, will be based out of Boston and lead the department's functions in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. She also served as a state representative for six terms before working as the registrar of the Registry of Motor Vehicles, according to the Boston Business Journal.

Ms. Kaprielian has worked in healthcare reform in her position as state representative, credited for doing work in tobacco cessation, early intervention and care for children and EHR management. She was appointed to her position as secretary of Labor and Workforce Development by former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick, and her position as secretary has been tenuous since Gov. Charlie Baker's election, according to the report.

"Rachel's work in state and local policy will surely be an asset to our Region I office," HHS Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell said in the report. "We look forward to Rachel joining her fellow Regional Directors as they continue their work delivering impact in communities around the country."
