Practice Fusion, CoverMyMeds collaborate to implement electronic prior authorization

CoverMyMeds, a prior authorization network, announced a partnership with EMR platform company Practice Fusion to integrate an electronic prior authorization tool.

Requesting prior authorization electronically automates and expedites the process of filling prescriptions, leveraging the network a hospital or practice already has in place to avoid the paper process of requesting authorization from prescribers, pharmacies and insurance companies. CoverMyMeds currently works with approximately 360 EHR systems and 45,000 pharmacy locations, according to a news release.

Practice Fusion, which is a free, cloud-based software, currently has approximately 110,000 users and 100 million patient records.

"Prior authorizations are considered the single most tedious process in a doctor's workflow," said Ryan Howard, founder and CEO of Practice Fusion, in the news release. "Working with CoverMyMeds ensures that our community of health care professionals no longer have the pain of this traditionally tedious workflow, and allows them to focus on what they trained to do, which is spending more time serving their patients."
