Doug Fridsma, MD, PhD, is resigning his post as the ONC's chief science officer to become president and CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association.
In an email to staff, National Coordinator Karen DeSalvo, MD, highlighted what she says is Dr. Fridsma's signature accomplishment — the creation of the Standards and Interoperability Framework. He also helped move the ONC's Nationwide Health Information Network into a public-private partnership outside the ONC.
Dr. Fridsma will begin his new role with the AMIA in November. The AMIA is a 4,000-member organization comprised of biomedical and health informatics professionals.
